Dr. Allen McGaughuey of Mountain Home, Arkansas, recently had a Colemill President II modification performed on his Baron. "I've really enjoyed it. It has wonderful performance. The climb out is vastly improved over what it was before and I feel a lot more comfortable on short fields," the doctor said.
He said that improved short field performance was really appreciated when he took his President II on a trip to visit several small islands in the Caribbean.
"On a lot of those little runways, I just had a lot more confidence coming out of there," he said. "It has been very dependable and reliable and has just performed beautifully since we had the conversion," he added.
"The modification doubled the rate of climb. It really is just much more powerful and much smoother. I would recommend this modification to any Baron owner," Dr. McGaughuey stated.
Dr. McGaughuey said he did not elect to have the optional "Zip-Tip" winglets
installed as part of his conversion. But he said he is strongly considering bringing the Baron back to Colemill for that addition.
The winglets also improve lift and flight stability and allow approaches to be flown slower - a big plus in short field operations.
Colemill's President II modification is available for all Baron 55A and B models. The modification includes installation of Continental IO-550 300 h.p. engines, new three blade props, new governors, and a Shadin Digiflow fuel computer.
The President II is one of three modifications Colemill offers for Barons. The other two are the President 600 - also for Baron 55 A and B models - and the Foxstar for all 58 models and the C, D, and E models of the 55.
