Colemill President II

Airline Check Pilot Impressed with Colemill's President II Baron

Shawn Kilgore is a check pilot for American Airlines who flies out of Dallas to destinations in Europe, Asia and South America in Boeing 777s.

For his personal flying, Kilgore has a Baron which was recently given a Colemill President II modification. Kilgore said he has been very impressed with the airplane since the conversion was performed. The performance improvements, he said, actually exceed the numbers posted on Colemill's website.

:The rate of climb has improved a lot. It's certainly a lot smoother. And I probably picked up 20 to 22 knots," Kilgore said. "I've tested it against some of the new numbers on the new 58 Baron just to see what they are putting out, and it's quite a bit better than that. I like it real well. I'm very, very well pleased with it", Kilgore added.

Colemill's President II conversion was engineered especially for Baron 55 A and B models.

The modification includes the installation of Continental IO-550 300 h.p. engines. Theses are the engines that are built with the heavy-duty case and additional cylinder hold-downs for added strength and reliability. The IO-550 also is manufactured under what is called the minimum horsepower concept. That means the engine always produces 300 h.p. - never less and usually more. It is also the only engine Continental makes that the company says is okay to run on the lean side of peak EGT.

In addition to these powerful, highly reliable engines, each Colemill President II modification also includes new three blade props, new governors, and a Shadin Digiflow fuel computer.

An option available for the President II modification is the installation of Colemill's "Zip-Tip winglets. The winglets improve lift for better climb and allow approaches to be flown slower. They also improve flight stability-especially in turbulence.
