Colemill Foxstar

Building Better Barons is a Colemill Tradition

The Colemill FoxstarIf you own a Baron--any model except the pressurized ones--Colemill has a modification that will make it a much better airplane.

Quicker takeoffs, faster cruise speeds, higher service ceilings, improved single engine performance, and in some conversions, slower approach speeds and improved in-flight stability are just some of the advantages the Colemill Baron conversions offer.

Colemill offers three distinct modifications for Barons: The Foxstar, the President 600, and the President II. All have full STCs from the Federal Aviation Administration and come with a full warranty from Colemill and the manufacturers of the component parts.

The most popular Colemill Baron conversion is the Foxstar. This modification is available for all 58 model Barons and C, D and E models of the 55.

The Foxstar conversion gives you not only great performance, but great looks as well. Its four blade "Q-Tip" props and "Zip Tip" winglets add a distinctive appearance to the Baron. But, they do much more than just make it look good.

The props greatly reduce cabin noise levels and vibration. The noise reduction is so great, in fact, that the Foxstar is the quietest piston twin available and is even quieter than some single engine airplanes. This quietness is what makes the Foxstar so popular in Switzerland and other European countries which have very strict aircraft noise regulations. Foxstars are allowed to use airports where stock Barons are prohibited because of their noise.

Like the props, the "Zip Tip" winglets look good, but they offer many other advantages as well. They give the airplane increased lift, improved in-flight stability, and slower stall speeds which allow approaches to be flown slower. This, of course, is a major advantage in short field operations.

The "Zip Tip" winglets are standard on the Foxstar conversion and are offered as an option on other Colemill Baron conversions.

If you're not ready to do a full modification on your Baron right now, the winglets, are available by themselves at Colemill.

Other components in the Foxstar conversion include Continental IO-550 300 H.P. engines. This is the highly reliable engine with additional cylinder hold-downs and a heavy duty case that resists cracking. The IO-550 produces a minimum of 300 H.P., has an automatic mixture control, and is approved by Continental to be run on the lean side of peak EGT. These powerful, trouble-free engines are major contributors to the Foxstar's extra climbing power, speed and reliability. All Foxstars also come with new governors and a synchrophaser which contribute to the quiet, smooth ride.

Another Foxstar feature is a Shadin Digiflow fuel computer which provides extremely accurate fuel management and allows flight legs to be extended to their legal limit.

The President 600 and President II conversions are available for Baron 55 A and B models. Both of these conversions come with new three-blade props and new governors. The President 600 is fitted with 300 H.P. Continental IO-520 engines. These President II features IO-550 300 H.P. engines and a Shadin Digiflow fuel computer.

If you're not sure which of these conversions would be better for your Baron and your type of flying, call Colemill. Our modification specialists will be happy to discuss it with you.

In addition to all the major components which go into each Colemill Baron conversion, all new accessories are installed too. These include such things as alternators, starters, magnetos, vacuum pumps, Lord mounts, hoses and belts.
